Academic freedom and knowledge tradition of the Arab heritage

Purpose This paper aims to confront some of the many facets academic freedom as a whole, including shared concerns with Western academia, its relationship politics Arab society and relevance these issues within local political domains. It attempts profile problems hindering societal progress beyond seemingly defined truth. While this subject has facets, article only examines scope knowledge inquiry derived from revered text Qur'ãn, relation democracy radicalism. is an effort refocus intellectual dialogue on ailing academia. also argues for reclaim core culture Islam enabler learning aside Eurocentric perspective freedom. Design/methodology/approach uses expository persuasive format in novel perspective. form sets out argument being indigenous Arab-Islamic heritage pursues statement resolution. outlines main familiar aspects lays components history. Findings provides insights arguments supporting theory. suggests that Arabs must judiciously consider what their education will look like accomplish next 100 years, considering sociopolitical status quo chances changing it. early history, academia governance. Therefore, not ignore examine hinders intellectualism. concludes point reinstalling create relevant democracy. Research limitations/implications The implications research, practice are vast. Further research would redefine terms processes, change role leadership, debunk locally dominated politics, introduce learning-first policies, balance inequalities gender, abolish tribalism move past colonialist ideas predominance. For researchers, view open doors new scholastic approaches. Practical includes practical stem approach provoke possibilities call more conversations. conversations should explore debate gaps Global South World or Middle East Northern Africa/Southwest Asia North Africa region could drafting contemporary MENA account Magna Charta Libertatis Academicae Universitatum galvanized by revivable heritage.
